Learning Science Together at the Whitaker

As the Family Coordinator it is my responsibility to meet with parents at their homes to complete the necessary paperwork for the after-school program and daycare subsidy applications. During one of these interviews, a parent (Name withheld) addressed concerns she had with the grant money ending. She was quite angry, in fact, about that. But, she expressed her gratitude for the improvement she has noticed in her daughters’ behavior as well as their academics. She attributes this progress to the time and attention they receive from the after-school program staff. She stated that her children are also able to get the homework help that they need in a safe environment, while still being able to participate in enrichment activities that she, due to her physical disability, would not be able to provide for them on her own. We all will be pleased when I inform her that we have just developed funding for the program on a permanent basis.
