The
K.L.A.S. (Kids
Learning After School) program serves Chambersburg Borough children and their
families. It is a 21st Century Community Learning Center. It is part of the
Chambersburg Area School District, serving children in grades 1-5 at Thaddeus
Stevens and Andrew Buchanan Elementary Schools. K.L.A.S. operates on all
school days, Monday through Friday from 3:45 until 6:15 PM during the school
year. Program content includes academic assistance (tutoring, homework help, and
mentoring), personal and cultural enrichment, service-learning, daily recreation
and a daily nutritious snack. Our school year program begins
September 13 and meets every school day. Transportation home is fee to all

We Were Small, But Irresistable
It was already dark at 6:30 PM on a cold and rainy February day in 2005. It was the second week of our initial after-school program. We had endured almost a year of delays and broken promises that often made it seem as if we’d never get started. But we had made a modest beginning at the local recreation center with 18 students, no classrooms, and no school buses. But we had some wonderful and dedicated teachers.
